Hop-on Hop-off Bus Pass

The most common way to travel the East Coast is with a Hop-on Hop-off bus pass. This gives you the flexibility to travel the coast at your own pace and extend your stay at fun spots along the way. If you purchase your bus pass through Mad Monkey – we are more than happy to book all your bus sectors according to your accommodation and activities so you don’t need to worry about anything at all – just turn up and show your vouchers. Or you can be more flexible and book them in yourself when you want to travel.

Car & Campervan Hire

If you are traveling solo we recommend you take a bus pass, but if you are traveling with 2 or more friends – car or camper might work out cheaper for you.

Please get in touch with us to get a custom quote on a car or campervan hire; we’ve got a few friends in the industry so we will make sure you get a nice discount.

When does this trip depart?

Trip departs daily – subject to availability. Please select your preferred date of departure when booking. If your date is not available, we will arrange a suitable alternative for you or provide a full refund.

Do I have to choose a date now?

We recommend you choose a departure date so we can book everything for you; however, if you aren’t sure you can leave the whole package “open-dated” and you will have 12 months to complete your travels. Too easy!

When will my booking be confirmed?

We will send full confirmation and all vouchers within 48 hours.

I’ve got some of my accommodation already sorted – can I remove those nights?

Yes – just let us know know when sending an inquiry and we will adjust everything for you.

Can I drive the 4WD on Fraser Island?

Yes – if you are over 21 years old and hold a valid drivers license (even international).

Do I have to do the full 31 days in one go?

No – this package is fully flexible. For example – you can choose to do just Sydney to Byron Bay and leave the rest of the trip “open-dated” – just let us know at the time of the booking and we’ll get it all sorted for you.

If I book all my dates in and then my plans change – what happens?

We highly recommend to lock in the dates only when you are 100% sure there won’t be any changes, as some suppliers do charge change/cancelation fees. If you aren’t sure on dates then we recommend we book in the beginning of your trip. Then you’ll get open-dated vouchers to lock the rest of the dates in yourself as you make your way up or down the East Coast.

Can I upgrade to 2 Days & 2 Nights Whitsunday Islands sailing boat?

Yes – just let us know when booking your package and we will help you with any upgrades you may want. For Wings Catamaran all-inclusive upgrade it will only be $275 extra.

How much spending money should I have?

We recommend $50/day, but it mainly depends on how much you spend on eating & going out. You can definitely do it on less! All the hostels and local restaurants have discounted meal deals.

How is it with BYO alcohol on trips?

All trips in this package allow BYO. There are always local Bottle shops so no need to stock up; only for Fraser Island, you’ll be told at the pre-departure briefing to visit a Bottle shop in Rainbow Beach before departure.

What is the difference between Fraser Island and the Whitsunday islands?

Fraser Island – over the course of your trip you’ll be on the island the whole time – it’s about driving on the beach, swimming in lakes, Champagne pools, exploring the rainforest, sand-dunes, and camping on the beach.

Whitsunday Islands – you’ll spend your time mostly on the boat, swimming, snorkelling and the only time you will be on an island is when visiting the World famous Whitehaven Beach.

The Cancellation Fee will apply in all cases where a tour is able to run. For example, if you are unable to reach a tour due to an “act of God” (for example a road is cut off due to flooding) the normal Cancellation Fee will apply if the tour still runs in your absence or would have run but for your absence. If a tour or other travel service is cancelled by the Service Provider, we will first endeavour to rebook you free of charge. If this is not possible we will refund you the amount you paid for the tour or other travel service less a 20% administration fee (“Admin Fee”). This full refund minus admin fee is subject to a fully refundable amount being given to us from the supplier who is cancelling. We highlight here that all suppliers have different cancellation policies applying to your travel and that it is important to familiarise yourself with these at time of purchase.

The 20% Admin Fee does not apply to; Skydives or Scenic flights cancelled by the Service Provider within 3 days of booking due to weather and a full refund will apply.

Whilst we normally attempt to process refunds swiftly, situations (such as natural disasters) may result in up to 30 days processing time, due to high volume.
